Holy moly, Crackberry fans! I have not been more excited for a gadget release than I am right now for the new Blackberry Bold 9900. aka ‘The Perfect Blackberry’. I’ll explain my excitement and anticipation in this 3-part article. Please read with an open mind and pure heart. Otherwise, you player haters can gtfo.

RIM’s (Research in Motion) Blackberry Bold 9900 has finally been surfacing around the internet in other people’s hands, unfortunately not in mine. With everything that the Bold already has to offer as the most reliable phone I’ve ever had the privilege of using/abusing, it adds to its already established epicness by including touch screen capability along with its full QWERTY keyboard.

Just like the Blackberry Torch?

Um, no, not really. The new Bold Touch is definitely not like it’s cousin the BB Torch  where the keyboard slides out. I honestly can’t find any use to having a slide out keyboard. I’ve heard people say before that it gives you the option for either having a keyboard or just a touch screen. I personally don’t think the touch screen capability is so amazing that it compensates for the slide out keyboard’s clunkiness. I mean that’s totally the 90′s, amirite? (CoughSidekickCough.) I will not fail to mention the new 5 megapixel camera upgrade it has now as well as the ability to record HD videos, Therefore it means I’m free to take pictures and video when I go to concerts/events without feeling ashamed at how shitty it will turn out vs. the iPhone. Hooray!  Topping the cherry off on how fucking sick this phone is going to be, having a full functioning browser as well as a sick new OS is more than enough to make me wet. Very wet. This obviously has been one of the most anticipated gadgets for myself, and most other fellow Blackberry lovers.

Part One: The Backstory

I’ve gone through about six iPhones from the OG to the 4, and have been too stubborn to realize that I actually don’t like the device but just want to keep up with the cool kids. Don’t get me wrong, I was one of the first lovers of the iPhone when people used to make fun of it, calling it an iBrick. To be honest, I couldn’t understand WHY you wouldn’t do everything on one device. Until I was forced into using my old Blackberry Bold after I lost my 6th iPhone. (Oh, and yes, I do know about the Where’s My iPhone App, so stfu & tyvm.)

Now that I’ve been reunited with my true love, I realize that the perfect balance between having a mobile phone and a touch-screen tablet device is having them NOT be the same gadget.

Part Two: The Explanation

- Why I prefer a full screen QWERTY keyboard over a touch screen one.

When it comes to text messaging and emails, writing on a touch screen keyboard is an undeniable struggle for iPhone users. I personally believe that physically pressing a button is much more satisfying than the touch screen one, for obvious reasons. Some may have their own preferences, like most of my Droid friends seem to not have this problem since their screens are quite large and can fit big ass buttons for their fatter fingers. Nevertheless, iPhone users can’t argue that typing messages on the iPhone can be a bit frustrating when taking into consideration the backseat typing iPhone’s autocorrect likes to do. A full QWERTY keyboard that is always readily available, with the alt/shift keys give you the ability to use keyboard shortcuts within applications, menus, and of course, writing messages.

- What I expect from the touch screen on a bold?

What stands out most with finally adding a touch screen to RIM’s most popular phone, is that there are some things that are actually not very efficient to do via keyboard/touchpad. For example: Scrolling left or right to a particular position in a text message is not as ideal as just tapping the cursor onto the screen. Or, the ease of scrolling through your photo’s and media, which we all know we can accumulate a lot of. The touch screen capability of the Bold 9900 is a simple yet elegant solution to all the reasons why the Bold is outdated for this generation.

- I need my phone to be a phone.

My final thought for this section is my recent discovery that I personally don’t want my phone to also keep track of documents, notes, apps, games, and whatever else people want to bombard their phones with. It’s not necessary and turns out to just be a distraction. I need my phone to function as a messaging device. I love my texting, bbm-ing, tweeting, and emailing so much that I refuse to be blinded by the need for it to be my multi functional device. I can just buy an iPad 2 with 3G for that… which is exactly what I’m doing.

Part Three: The Goal

Now that the new Bold is coming out for ATT in November, I’ve already made up my mind on what I will be buying myself for my birthday. I’m first going to check with my contract, to see if I can upgrade it or something, and grab myself the sexy new Bold and finally have a phone worthy of this generation of smartphones.

I’ve said this the moment that I realized my iPhone was lost/stolen and knew I wasn’t going to get it back: Fuck it, it’s just an iTouch with 3G. My friends laughed and continued on enjoying their iPhones, when I then was released from the mindset of making my next cellphone purchase, another iPhone. Therefore, my selfish and materialistic goal for the end of the year is to have both an iPad 2 3G and the Perfect Blackberry.

IN WHITE! BHAHAHAHA!

Seriously though, I can’t do a proper review until I purchase the phone. So the hunt for a White Blackberry Bold 9900 is now underway. Until then, you can check out the review done by BGR here, in which I first creamed myself seeing the first Bold photos.
